Shelly's Shell Search

ISBN 0769604307 - It is rare for me to read a Little Landoll Book and come away shocked into giving it 5 stars. Shelly's Shell Search is one of those, and you don't have to take my word for it - with the current used price of a penny, this is one that will be easy to make your own!

Shelly finds her old shell perfectly fine for everyday wear, but when she receives an invitation to the Dragonfly Ball, she thinks she needs something new. Setting out on a search that takes her into town and back, she spots a few attractive choices, but each turns out to be all wrong. A crab's shell, a motorcyclist's helmet and a traffic cone all look good, but none work out and Shelly finds herself out of options as the Ball approaches. The young turtle learns a lesson about beauty.

The first thing that I thought, when I finished this book, was "Wow". The message was such an unexpected surprise! Author Tracey Herrold tells the entire story in almost flawless rhyme and Alexandra Lee does a great job with the illustrations, particularly the expressions on Shelly's face. Everyone needs to know that beauty is inside and you might as well start teaching your child now.
