Both my husband and I highly recommend mysteries by Phoebe Atwood-Taylor (also used the name Alice Tilton). Wonderful screwball mysteries written back in 1930s-50s. Tightly woven plots which leave no loose ends and although provide many clues makes it hard to guess the perpetrator. The characters are so human you'll recognize aquaintances. All take place on Cape Cod and give a lot of folk history.

This particular mystery takes place during WWII. Atwood-Taylor makes fun of everyone so the Minutewomen portrayed in this book as they learn to shoot and wreck havoc across the cape come in for their share of roasting but never fear feminism wins out.
