I expected to have problems with the religiousness of this book but can honestly say I loved it. It does get overly religious at times but I just let it go in one ear and out the other. The good guys (Evangeline, Celestine, Gabriella and Verlaine) and even the bad (Grigori) were spectacular characters. Though the story is a fantasy, these people made it seem very real and even possible. The action was intense and the scenes with the nephilim very violent. There were times where the book dragged with too much information, granted most of it is relevant to the story but it was overwhelming. It seemed to me that the seemingly peaceful nuns at St. Rose convent morphed into ninja nuns way too quickly. If they were in disguise, it was a well kept secret.

I loved the mystery of where the Lyre was hidden but I felt the unraveling of clues was rushed and far-fetched (everything was found immediately with minimal information and searching). I must admit that I didn't see the ending coming and was rather surprised. It was definitely set up for a sequel.
