I didn't like this book (or series) as much as I liked his Tyrants and Kings series. This book is not nearly as well written. The characters really aren't endearing or likeable. The plot is uneven and far-fetched - maybe because his characters can't carry the story that well. It's mostly a series about the "down-trodden and misfits of society" and their worth or lack thereof. This book may be the weakest of the 3 in the trilogy. But there are all sorts of magic, sword fights, "enchanted" animals, trickery, politics, and war. But I really felt like this was maybe one of the first drafts of the book and not a finished product. It could have been better.
