I don't really get why I read this all the way through, as it's one overly familiar plot element after another, and the sex scenes have an unrealistic choreographed feeling. I suspect it's because the author knows how to do a fast paced page turner, the suspense being when will the characters figure out what I've already guessed.

The hero Drake is really kind of a pain, with his obsession with revenge and his near-impossible sexual control, but he's not the only regency historical hero written that way by far, so I guess I can't blame the author for that. I was able to relate much better to the female characters - Alicia, the heroine; her friend Sarah; her mother Eleanor, who suffers from dementia; Yates, the servant beaten and left for dead by her husband. It's no classic, but it did hold my interest to the end.
