Book Review of Getting Your Children Sober

Getting Your Children Sober

COMPASSIONATE, DESPERATELY NEEDED HELP FOR THE PARENTS OF THE THIRTY-THREE PERECENT OF TEENAGERS WHO ARE ALREADY PROBLEM DRINKERS OR DRUG USERS.

One third of all teens have a serious alcohol or drug problem, and their parents are too terrified to do anything about it. Bestselling author, Toby Rice Drews, addresses the underlying fears that parents face: the most immobilizing guilt, terror, and embrarrassement that prevent family memebers from taking even the smallest steps towards getting help.
She draws on her extensive professional experience and that of other experts, to discuss the genetic facts of addiction, why "tough love" is too tough for most parents, and how the intervention, evaluation, and treatment process works. She offers suggestions for enlisting the help of teachers, counselors, and probation officers to do the intervention, and explains why parents need to recover at their own pace, along with their children.
Drews shows how to select comptetent counseling services, how to separate alcoholism from mental health probelms, how to deal with alcoholic spouses, or ex-spouses and more.
