This is another in the series about Alan Banks, a senior detective in Yorkshire. Alan is a pleasant fellow who grew up in the 60s and when not detecting has all the problems of marriage and children that the rest of us have--of course, he has the typical problems of Yorkshire, which appear to be a little different than those in Utah, where I live. (That's part of what makes his daily life interesting....)

Banks works through the crime, slowly discovering threads and pieces of information which eventually disclose the crime and criminal. It's thoughtful reading, not thriller stuff. Part of it involves decades-old misdeeds of his superior officer.

Robinson is a master writer. If you like British police procedurals (I do!), you'll enjoy this one.
