Some books I can finish reading, put away and move on to another book. Others remain with me far beyond finishing that last chapter. This book was one of those. I will be thinking about the characters (so real to me--despite the immense cultural differences!) for a long time to come. I was horrified reading about footbinding, and horrified reading about the way women were brainwashed into really believing they were worthless members of society. However, the love the two "old sames" shared and the lessons that Lily learned through that love moved me, inspired me, and thrilled me.
