True Crime novels have always intrigued me. This particular book astounded me. Joseph Duncan was a vicious serial rapist turned murderer who never should have been set free on $15,000 bail. He had proved time and time again that he was not able to be rehabilitated nor could he function properly in society.

This book was a real eye-opener to some of the major loop holes within our judicial system. Unfortunately it took a situation as unfortunate and preventable as the despicable unnecessary gruesome murder of this family and the kidding name of the Groene children in order for some of these laws to change and become more stringent. It's unbelievable that this event only occurred a few short years ago.

The book itself is easy to read, though at times I felt the author was choppy in the details. Some details seemed misplaced and rather than create a new chapter or paragraph just seemed to continue with the flow of thought. This annoyed me at times, but otherwise the book was wonderfully written and spared no details.
