The couplings and uncouplings and recouplings of kids from "the best group at the best high school in Washington, D.C." Phoebe admits to her artistic bent, falls hard for sensitive Griffin and painfully breaks up with stalwart steady Brad, who wants to go to Princeton and be a doctor. Various subplots circle around as the series' characters are introduced. Longer and more complex than many such romances, the writing and character development are good and the plot makes sense.
