An interesting time setting - the period of medival Scotland where there are still Norse kings allied with the clans. Has a touch of the supernatural. Mentions the English scourge but most of the conflict in this story in between Scots. This story follows a member of the Vaudrys family that was raised Scot and is set upon by reivers. He ends up at the home of a woman that has left her clan to have a baby out of marriage. The story is rich with the language and details of the time period, and a very emotional story. Recommended.
