A Thousand Shall Fall
When 40 year old Pastor Hasel is drafted into the German Army in World War II into the engineering battalion he carnes a wooden gun and puts it in his pocket and throws away his gun into the river. His family , a wife and three children are left behind. The war will be hell for all of them. Mrs.Hasel has another Baby and the city families are sent into the country for their own safety. Mrs. Hasel and her 4 children spend the night in winter in a freezing shed. The next day the town mayor finds an older couple who will take Mrs. Hasel and her 4 children. Mrs. Hasel and her older children clean the couples house and do their farm work. The Hasel's see people dying all around them, but none of them are hurt. I give away most books after I read them but this book I keep a permanent copy of. This book is an outstanding example of how God cares for his people. -
