This has more romance than the average Fforde book. Usually the romance is a side note and the story is more about the main character overcoming some major obstacle in life.
Here Grace is trying to redefine herself as a doormat after being somewhat abandoned by her parents, overwhelmed by bossy siblings, and left by an overbearing husband. There were times where I got fed up with how whiny Grace was about her ex or how she lets her sister run her over, but that's a huge part of the story so I had to bear with it.
The addition of Ellie and Grace's ex's daughter were great. They all have very similar issues as Grace and walked well to grow together in the story.
Excellent, read. Had a hard time putting it down.
