The second in the Missing Pieces series by Joyce and Jim Lavene, Dae is found along with several other citizens of Duck, NC at the Duck Historical Museum where Max Caudle, the longtime curator spends a lot of his time. Max found a chest of gold on the shore and put it in the museum. As Dae and her friends stand outside, the museum building suddenly explodes, killing Max and injuring Dae. Dae spends a couple of days in the hospital with a concussion.

Before her injury Dae had only to hold someone's hands in order to see where lost objects were, such as a piece of jewelry or a lost book, but after her concussion her psychic powers become heightened and all she has to do is touch an item and she has a vivid vision of the entire history of it. She starts wearing gloves in order to keep from touching objects because this new phenomenon frightens her.

Dae is also the mayor of the small beach town of Duck, NC
and her so-called romance with Kevin Brickman picks up a bit in this book. There is also a subplot concerning the daughter of Aaron Burr, Theodosia, who Max always thought lived out the rest of her life on the island, and others thought she was killed by pirates. It's a nice historical touch to the book.

A very good and interesting mystery.
