I first became aware of this author when I watched her first book titled, Kisses from Katie fly off the shelf at the book store I worked at. I heard from others about how God had called her to minister to children in Uganda. But I had never had the chance to read the book. Now fast forward 10 years and an opportunity arises for me to read her current book. I jump at the chance to review it and learn about the rest of her story.

In Daring to Home this twenty-eight-year-old girl bares her soul; she's gut-wrenchingly honest in describing her fears, doubts, hard-ships and how God has impresses upon her heart a deep understanding of His word. Katie reveals how in the darkness He's been alongside her even when she didn't feel it or see it. She talks of wrestling with God (like Jacob did). She says, ââ¦I wrestled to see good, to believe the words that I was trying to teach others. My cry was that of Jacob, I will not let go until you bless me, until I see you here.â

She wondered where God was in the mess? As she asked that question from the depths of her soul God began to reveal Himself in surprising and personal ways. Then more hard times came and God asked tough questions like would she still be faithful to Him even when the outcome wasn't the happily ever after she prayed for. Would she continue to love and serve Him no matter the outcome?
God began to speak to her through the story of Abraham, how God asked him to take his son to Mount Moriah, where Abraham âfully expected that God would provide the lambâ¦where the faith of the widow, using up her remaining flour and waited for God to provide more. This is how I desired to live: completely surrendering the way I would write the story in exchange for eyes wide open to see how He would write itâ¦.I would find His promised beauty for ashes.â These are stories of hope she describes.

She shares the joys and the heart ache of the lives she's touched and the ones that have touched her's. Katie tells of how God made her ready to share her life along with her 13 children with a man God brought to be her husband, help and soul mate. She is the founder of Amazima Ministries an organization that cares for vulnerable children and families of Uganda.

This book is one to be shared. I wasn't ready for the message in this book and for how God's word touched me to the core of my being like it did. You won't look at life the same. This is a must read.
