Scott Pilgrim is a typical loser 20-something. He doesn't have a job. He shares a studio apartment and a bed with Wallace. He's dating a 17 year old. At least he has a band, though. His whole life gets shaken up when he falls for Ramona Flowers. He must defeat her 7 evil exes to be with her, and they keep popping up at random times.

Although the series is above average, this first book is decidedly average. O'Malley takes a bit too much time showing us what a loser Scott is before the action starts. Thankfully, the rest of the series doesn't face this short-coming.
