Maxwell becomes Amity's ward when he's only 19 and she's 11. He's appalled by the gawky, accident-prone child and his new responsibilities, so he leaves her at her estate with her servants, leaving instructions for her care with his man of business. Ten years have passed and Maxwell has quite forgotten he has a ward until his man of business reminds him that it's time he find her a husband. Expecting the worst, he sends for Amity, arranging for his soon-to-be fiance, Honoria, to help give her social advice. Of course, Amity turns out to be much lovelier than Max could have ever expected and prone to falling into one escapade after another because of her big heart. Max's prospective fiance tries to make Amity look bad. What follows is a funny romp with Max learning that love is not logical and that a big heart can more than make up for a lack of social graces.
I very mucy enjoy this book. It's lighthearted and a good read for an afternoon. It's been on my keeper shelf for a bit but I finally decided to share it.
