This is the third in a series beginning with Peaches. Murphy, Leeda and Birdie return to their home in Bridgewater for the summer. Murphy has been in New York City which she has grown to love. Leeda leaves her wonderful boyfriend in Manhattan for the visit. Birdie has abandoned her Mexican lover to return to her beloved peach grove.

The summer is the last one they will spend picking peaches in Birdie's family peach grove as her father plans to sell it. The last they will spend with each other. For each, it is a time to examine her heart and discover what comes next in their lives.

Murphy wonders if she will see Rex, the love she left behind because she finds it difficult to settle down. He loves country life while she loves big city living. And, her mother has never revealed who her father is. She wants to know but doesn't want to know but is certain that he, too, loves to be free to wander wherever he pleases.

Leeda inherits a pony rescue from her grandmother along with a significant sum to maintain it or spend if she can find homes for the ponies. She finds herself adopting every stray animal or bird that lands on her doorstep.

Birdie is having trouble coping with the reality of losing the home where she grew up. Her father feels that the work has become too much for him and the house straddles an underground cave that is eroding the house foundation. It's a good YA coming of age read.
