Maxwell longford resides in London to avoid the overbearing criticism of his father, who believes is son to be nothing more than a notorious rake. Actually, Maxwell's ambitions lie in agriculture and estate management, but his father would never trust him with such a responsiblity. So when he wins Redrock House and its tenant farms while gambling, he seizes the opportunity to make his dreams come true.

Hope Ashburton has had her own dreams dashed time and again by the machinations of her cruel uncle. but she is sill taken aback when she lears he's gambled away her home to a disreputable earl.. However, Longford seems genuinely interested in restoring the ruined estate to productivity. And Hope soon finds her mistrust of men melting away, as her desire for Longford ignites in a passion she has never known before....
