Johnstone writes a good book using common language of the time and a lot of factual data from the early west. His fictional hero, Preacher, is a man of many talents who leads us through the earliest days of europeans going west to seek their fortune in the fur trade. If you like stories of western settlement and the toughness required to survive in a new, lawless and wild world this is a good read.
