Claire Cross is fabulous at character development and details! I'm riveted by each of her books...watching the changes as they progress through this family...it's like watching Survivor! I can relate with most of her characters well, too. Reading their thoughts, understanding their choices, and especially the misunderstandings that grow in relationships over time, is part of what I like about this series so much.

In this, the 3rd in the series, life and choices have pulled a married couple apart. And while each truly loves the other, neither feel that they are getting what they need out of the relationship. One is interpretted as controlling all of the decision making and lifestyle, while that one is carrying the burden of taking care of everyone, of putting the family ahead of her own dreams. They have to take a good look at the choices they made and who they are/want to be and what they want out of life, before they can attempt to reach out to each other.

Each book revisits other characters spotlighted in other books, members of the family, so the picture gets richer each time.

And you don't get that overwhelming feeling, so prevalent in books these days, that everyone is completely clueless, and innane...just to make the story dramatic. I really appreciate that. Life is dramatic enough, without being stupid.
