ISBN 1887942475 - This is the point in my Hooked on Phonics reading that you can call me shocked. Pleasantly, but still shocked. I've read a bunch of HOP books lately and have found that the Second Grade level books seem to be so much better than the others.

A cat's habit of sleeping all day and playing all night bothers a group of dogs, who convince him to adjust to their habits. When the cat does, he finds that everything is all wrong. He switches back to his normal hours and things begin to go smoothly again.

The rhyming text, by Leslie McGuire, is really good. The rhyme flows, the story is amusing and kids will love it. The thing that makes it better than good, in my opinion, is that it's got a nice message - that what is right for some isn't always right for others. Esther Szegedy's illustrations are perfect. They're fun and funny, colorful and action-packed. There's a very cartoon-y feel to them that is absolutely the best choice for this book and the details are really nice touches.
