In this book we are introduced to Charlotte Ellison, her family and Thomas Pitt. Young women are being strangled and one of the killings brings the horror to the doorstep of the Ellison family. We see the rigid rules of conduct that separate "the classes" and how the police are viewed. I was never a fan of "historical mysteries", but this book made me change my mind.....I really enjoyed learning of the mores of the time as well as being treated to an excellent mystery....
