California defense attorney Tony Lord returns to his hometown of Lake City, Ohio to defend his oldest friend, Sam, who is accused of murdering his 16-year-old lover. The case resonates with Tony because he faced similar accusations 28 years ago when his high school girlfriend was brutally murdered. Although Tony was never charged, the townspeople--Sam included--never fully believed in his innocence.
