Tho it held my interest, I can' say I learned anything I didn't already know than about the life of the freed slaves just prior to and after the Emancipation Proclamation. I had hoped it would be a true story, rather than fictionalized, but it got its points across nonetheless.I would consider it to be more of a young adult read.
