There was some very positive online buzz about this book so I felt lucky to be able to connect with it here at PBS. The author has somewhat of a feel for the Regency period however she fell short of being era-correct for me. I'm one of those Regency readers who thrives on an author being if not compulsively accurate then at least in the ballpark. I'm in the minority, I realize that, but I couldn't quite warm up to many of the characters in this convoluated story - all I could think of was Lynda Carter in an Empire gown (uh, for those younger readers here think Wonder Woman). Our heroine could do everything but skin a mule. All the Regencyland contained in this book kept pulling me out of the story, kept thinking of Heyer's "Sophy" who came to town and took over; then there was the ballroom scene where.....well, it was a scene very similar to one in Chase's LORD OF SCOUNDRELS. Oh well, maybe the 2nd book in what obviously is the first in a series will be better.
