Book Review of Love Me to Death: A Journalist's Memoir of the Hunt for Her Friend's Killer

Love Me to Death: A Journalist's Memoir of the Hunt for Her Friend's Killer

For some reason, this well-written book about fairly interesting crimes, did not totally grip me. I think the research was good but Ms. Wolfe makes herself a character in some regards. She explains how she got interviews, injects her personal reaction to the folks she meets, talks about a friend who was quite probably murdered by the criminal, Richard Caputo. It felt like this choice diminished the shock value and impact of the murders. Overall though, I liked some of the choices she made revealing how vulnerable doing the research made her feel. It is a book both about Wolfe as an author, and about this selfish ladies' man. Most interesting was the way he attracted his prey. Sad to think of how desperate many women are for a relationship.
