I liked the story, which begins as Belle is used as a pawn in her wicked husband's plan to ruin Justin, the young Lord Wroth. The husband leads Justin to believe that Belle was a part of the scheme when in fact she knew nothing about it. Justin wounds Belle's husband in a duel and he eventually dies of his wounds. He's forced to leave England to escape prosecution and scandal. Three years later, Justin returns, having inherited a dukedom, to Regency London. Although determined to revenge himself on widowed Belle, he still has feelings for her (although he denies it to himself). The only real trouble with the book is that Belle is kind of a wuss. She's always a little bit headachy, or sick to her stomach, or being too reserved with Justin. A slightly stronger heroine would have been refreshing and made it a better book; still, it's a solid three-star read.
