Another thought-provoking thriller from Brown. I've liked most of Brown's novels since reading The Da Vinci Code when it first came out several years ago. In Origin, Brown delves into the age-old question of where we came from and where we are going from both a religious and scientific point of view. Robert Langdon, the protagonist of Brown's series of books, is in Spain to attend the announcement of a discovery that promises to answer these questions. The announcement is to be made by one of Langdon's former students, Edmond Kirsch, a renowned scientist and futurist, in front of a worldwide video audience. But as the announcement is about to take place, Kirsch is horrifically gunned down by an unknown assailant. So is Kirsch's discovery lost forever? Langdon hopes not and sets out to try to unleash his presentation which is stored in his futuristic computer system. He is helped by Ambra Vidal, who worked with Kirsch and who is the fiancee to the future king of Spain. But who is responsible for Kirsch's murder and how can Langdon get to the programmed announcement? The novel takes place in Spain from the Guggenheim Museum of Modern Art to Gaudi's magnificent cathedral in Barcelona as well as other places related to Gaudi. The book was full of insight into these places and included many thought raising questions about religion and the origins of life. Overall a very entertaining and recommended novel in Brown's Langdon series.
