This was an easy read, told with great humor, with some surprisingly deeply drawn characters and wise observations.
A young widowed mother, circa 1958, moves with her young daughter to Gainesville FL to escape the sad memories of their former home and make a new start. One of young Dinah's new friends, as she struggles to fit in, is rich, popular Crystal Landy. The meat of this book is the relationship between these two families over the growing up years of these girls, with the backdrop of the Civil Rights Era and the beginnings of VietNam. Dinah's mom finds true love in an unconventional relationship; despite the social differences between them, the two moms become friends, and the girls work their way through their own first teen and adult relationships.
