Adrian Mackinnon has decided he has no time in his life for love however he comes to the realization that in order to have the heirs he desires, he needs a wife. He has no desire to court a woman so he does what a reasonable? man would do - he asks his brother Ross to find him one.
Maggie Ramsay is a widowed mother of three small children who has serious problems that threaten her family so she agrees to marry her best friend's brother by proxy and travel from Scotland to California.
What neither Adrian or Maggie know is that Ross left out some important details in his letter to Adrian describing his new bride.
Maggie tries so very hard to learn what drives Adrian while he tries to distance himself from having feelings for her. A tug of war of both wills and words is ongoing between the two. Soon Adrian learns some information about Maggie that in his mind justifies his belief that no woman can be trusted.
Maggie is a strong heroine who has a sense of humor and uses it often to get around the walls that Adrian has built.
I really enjoyed this book.
