Three tales from a master of the short story dealing with men and the sea in the late 19th century. "Youth: A Narrative" (1898), a man recounts his early experiences on perhaps the unluckiest ship ever to put to sea; "Typhoon"(1902)and "The Secret Sharer" (1910) in which a ship's captain conceals a fugitive stowaway. Conrad can be read as action tales of the sea or something deeper, dealing with psychology and character.
