Fascinating history of the American Museum of Natural History in New York. The first part focuses on the explorers, scientists, and collectors who gathered the objects in the museum's hugh collections. Then we are given a tour of the museum, talking to curators, looking in vaults, listening to the histories of strange objects. There are some fascinating anecdotes. In choosing what to include, the author has followed his own interests, not necessarily writing about the most famous things and people.
