This is the poet laureates poem of the strife between Chief Joseph and the Federal Government two-faced generals and politicians over tribal land in Northeastern Oregon. And, behind the scene are the money-grabbing speculators and financiers who press the issue. We gave the natives whiskey; in return we are now getting casinos. Both ruin the economy and society. Along the way Mr. Warren manages to sneak in a few choice words of current disrepute (for polite society at least). Some how they are out of place and rather detract from the work.
