For a fascinating subject, the book reads like the first draft of a dissertation that needs the steady hand of a good advisor. If you can look past the author's pendantic points, there's a good story, but I wanted less dropping of names and more understanding of the people, especially Dr. Dixon Jones; one does not come to know her as a person, only a persona. I took a lot away historically, but the reader and psychologist in me wanted much more. Still, it's a good read if you like medical history and are interested in medicine and gender dynamics. It's worth the couple of hours I spent reading it.
