"Well, there it is," pronounced Ales, as they stood in front of the iron gates. Wild grapevines tangled through the bars with a thickness that said the gates hadn't been opened in forty years.

"Keep out." "No Trespassing." "Trespassers will be prosecuted." "Beware of Dog."

"I'll bet there's no dog," Alex said. "Not really. If we could just find a spot where the barbed wire has fallen off the top, then I"m sure we could scramble over."

Lily still felt in her bones that they should stop here, go no farther. "This is a bad idea, Alex," she said.
