I was more fascinated with the witch terror than I was with Marina and Richard's sweet romance. Marina's near-death experience resulting from horrific tragedy gave her predictive abilities, which is why she believed that she was a witch. The majority of the story is set with the family taking refuge in the home, dodging arrests, and planning their escape. I loved Richard's role as protective hero and Marina's grit. There was a very real sense of urgency, with fear constantly simmering underneath it all. As a treat, the author includes a modern-day epilogue, cluing me into the couple's outcome that was immensely satisfying to this genealogy enthusiast. 3.5 stars.
