In 1978 Richard "Dick" Bloch, co-founder of H & R Block, Inc., the nation's largest preparer of income tax returns, came down with cancer, though two doctors initially said he didn't have it. With the help of his wife, Annette, doctors who said he could lick the disease, and his own stubborn determination to survive it, Bloch waged a bitter, painful, two-year-long war on the insidious disease.

Today, he is cured.

So dramatic was his fight and recovery, that Bloch and his wife decided to spend their lives helping to convince others who are stricken with cancer that they too can cope with the disease.
