This novel is an excellent introduction, for young and 'old' adults, to the true story of the Navajo code talkers of WW II. The story, if taken as written, would have made a better movie than Windtalkers, with Nicholas Cage, with its butchered outlook.

While there were a few minor problems with some historical points, something you need to overlook in any novel, there was one major error which astounded me. The author claims, through his protagonist, the second raising of the American flag over Mt. Suribachi on Iwo Jima was a 'staged' event. It has been proven, over and over again, the second raising was not staged.
