Summer sizzles in the Orient. The overall feel of this book to me was 'find yourself'. Through huge mistakes, lost loves, jobs, friends and change, find yourself. At times I found the tone sad, judgemental and a bit too much focused on wealth. Most of us aren't wealthy and I hate to break it to you, but I don't need to read about excess wealth. I want to read about people and situations that could occur in my life.
I could relate to Ruthie most of the time. She's older than me and in a different part of her life. But, I could relate to the desperation. The desperation to make things right, to survive through the crap that seemed to be thrown at her this summer. I didn't mind the other characters. I enjoyed Jem and I really enjoyed the emails she wrote to her bff.
Great beach read.
