My least favorite Marcus Corvinus mystery so far. At 612 pages, it's 1/3 to 1/2 longer than his other books and badly in need of a copyeditor with a hatchet to clear away the excess shrubbery, red herrings, and self-indulgent sub-plots. It seemed as if whenever a new character is even mentioned, that person will shortly be regarded as a prime suspect. This was one of those books that when I saw the number of pages yet to be read was less than 100, I was happy, not so I could find out whodunit but so it'd be over. The solution was as convoluted and improbable as the rest of the book. Too bad, as I liked the previous five in the series quite well.

Spoiler: The author needs to research how a high-strung horse would behave when someone other than his usual attendants tried to give him a pill.
