This is the story of Rafe Conley and Sparkle LeFleur. Rafe is a For Hire
Gun and Sparkle tells fortunes using Tarot cards. She is literally thrown
at Rafe's feet in the middle of the town's street by her saloon-owner
employer. She has refused to become a whore for Harker's paying customers.
Rafe pressures Harker into giving her back her job as fortuneteller without
whoring. Harker figures Rafe's reputation will lend protection to his
establishment and agrees to the bargain. This situation begins a whole
string of incidents leading to a faked marriage between Rafe and Sparkle to
protect her while Rafe is off doing his job in other towns.

Eventually Sparkle is kidnapped for ransom. The kidnapping is really a
set-up to trap Rafe. Rafe rescues her and they move on to Dodge City, where
Sparkle plays the whore to lure a particularly evil murderer and cattle
rustler. Sparkle is wounded in the set-up and Rafe blames himself for ever
putting her in danger.

Sparkle has legitimate reasons for working in saloons; the money goes to
support her invalid brother and to pay for a nurse to attend his needs.
Through many difficulties and misunderstandings Rafe and Sparkle finally
work out all of their secrets and realize theirs is a love that will endure.

Rafe is not your normal flawless and handsome hero; he is tortured by his
past and some of the things he has done. Sparkle has been on her own since
she was very young and has felt totally responsible for her brother
