Ill admit it: I read this book because I saw the movie (and I saw the movie because I have had a long-standing infatuation with Paul Bettany, but I digress) and liked it. I wanted to see what else the book could offer. So, I read it. And I was not disappointed. Of course, usually books are better than the movies they spawned, but this book, although classified as a childrens book, is so much more mature than just a childrens book usually is. It deals with themes of abandonment, and loyalty, and family, and responsibility for your actions and all sorts of things. Every character is richly drawn and really involves you in their story. A warning: this is book one of a four part series. Although I might want, one day, to pick up the other books, Im actually pretty satisfied with it as it stood at the end of the first one.
