As usual, the writing carries the story along. It takes a while for Rutledge to unravel the motive behind a string of deaths that may or may not be connected. The setting (a small hamlet slowly being devoured by the sea,) is interesting. As in other books, Rutledge is sleep-deprived, which may be why -- as he uncovers the culprit's identity -- he does one thing that I found a true head-scratcher. Those into the series will not be disappointed.
