I have this book and have used it as THE Reference for ALL of my beginner and refresher sewing classes. Published in 1999, many would detract because of the date. This is such a good book for the beginner and for those wanting to update "rusty skills".

Starts off as a guide for the "absolute beginner", many sewing book proclaiming to be for beginners assume too much knowledge. How-to's include the use of, and the "whys, whats, and why nots" of tools and equipment, specilized vocabulary for sewing and clothing industry standards, how-to read and make sense of pattern envelopes and basic instruction sheets, estimating fabric and converting available widths.

Perfect guide, with small projects to get you going and moving along in the sewing world. Seaming, stitch guides, finishing techniques, easy closures, are all included.

If searching for a great sewing book for beginners and refreshers, this one is one of the best and the price is very affordable!
