Book Review of The Cross and the Switchblade

The Cross and the Switchblade
reviewed The Story of the Pastor Who Founded Times Square Church on
Helpful Score: 2

This book is a fascinating history of the ministry of David Wilkerson in the city of New York. In 1958, David Wilkerson read a story about seven young gang members on trial for murder in New York City. He was compelled to visit the city and found it full of gangs, drugs and violence, Wilkerson felt a call to preach the Gospel there. This book tells the story of his first visits to the city and his early ministry. Written in 1963, the book tells only the first part of the story. Times Square Church today has over 8,000 members and is located in a beautiful theater in Times Square. The book provides a very interesting look back on the history of New York and at the revival of Christianity in the city.
