For young Will, it appears there is no end in sight for the war. He's missing his father more than everespecially after Fawn's dad returns, leaving Will green with envy. Will's excited that Aunt Hildy-Helen will be living with them, but when she arrives, she's not at all what he expected. To top it off, Fawn's parents are talking about moving away from Sante Fe.

Suddenly, it appears everything is changing, leaving Will constantly disappointed and feeling like everything is spiraling out of his control. In search of a good distraction, he decides to find out what's going on at "the Hill" and what's behind the super-secret Manhattan Project. As he follows a mysterious woman who he's sure will lead him to a clue, Will gets into the biggest trouble yet. Will he learn in time that the choices he makes really do make a big difference?
