Summary:
This is hard to write a summary about. Ave Lavender talks about her family and the way love has affected them. She begins with her great-grandmother and then goes through the generations to her current life. She discusses other members of the family that are not direct lineage through the mother's, but basically stays true to that family tree. Each person has their own quirks, triumphs, and failures.

My thoughts:
The strongest part of this novel is the way Walton writes. She has this way with words that just makes you melt into the prose. While she is strong and descriptive, she is also poetic and soft. It really is wonderful how she has managed to make the voice feel whimsical but also like an independent, strong, modern woman. Walton's story telling is exquisite and rare. For this matter alone, I think this is one of my favorites for the year. While my school year is over, I will definitely be placing it up on my favorites wall for next years students because I think they should read it. On the story side, this is a mixture between myth and tradition. Each family has a story and this one relays some that seem unbelievably true and others that must have been embellished for a night time tale. There are time that you will laugh and other times where you may sniffle a little bit, but it's a wave of emotions that you won't want to give up.
