Mr. Midshipman Easy is by far the earliest book on british naval historical fiction that I have ever had the pleasure of reading. While it started a little different than most books, it turned out to be a great read and quite humorous through out. It follows the life of an extremely wealthy child to adulthood and his misadventures in the navy. Mr. Easy stumbles and fumbles his way through a series of adventures and each time by the hand of providence and a lot of good luck comes out smelling like a rose. He finally decides that he needs to leave the service and then takes up privateering. The first chapter was a little slow but after that it is hard to put down. If you love books on the great age of sail then this one is for you.
