The 12 stories in this volume were collected by Archer on his travels. He says 10 of them are based on known incidents (with embellishments) and two are the result of his imagination. They deal with "the age-old themes of jealousy, passion, greed and love." Publishers Weekly has called Archer "the natural successor to Maugham."
